PHILISTIA
LAND OF THE PHILISTINES
Definition
"The Land of the Philistines" on the southwestern coast of Palestine, belonged to the Promised Land and was assigned to Judah and Dan. No attempt was made to conquer it when the Israelites entered the land, therefore, the feuds began and never really ended. One of the reasons was the abominable idolatry of the Philistines. Their chief gods were Dagon and Beelzebub. After "the captivity" the kingdom of Philistia ceased to exist, and after Alexander the Great, nothing more is heard about the Philistines.
