PALM TREE
Definition
The date palm is the palm tree variety most common in the East. The palm tree was always associated with Palestine, mentioned in many Bible scenes. Dates were an important food for the people. Camels feed on the seed, the leaves are woven into mats and baskets, and the fibers provide rigging for boats. So valuable is the tree that the ancients regarded it as sacred. Jericho was called the city of palm trees. Its leaves were carried by the multitudes at the triumphal entry into Jerusalem by Jesus.
