LYDIA
Definition
(1) A woman of Thyatira, Paul's first convert in Europe and his hostess at Philippi. She was a dealer in dyes and dyed goods. (2) An ancient and very prosperous province of Asia Minor on the sea, its capital being Sardis. The early churches in Asia (Ephesus, Smyrna, Thyatira, and Sardis) were located in what was formerly Lydia.
