KINGDOM OF ISRAEL
Definition
A name often applied to the United Kingdom before the revolt of the ten tribes. It was used to designate the territory of the ten tribes. After the death of Solomon, it was usually applied to the independent kingdom of the ten tribes, their kings were called "kings of Israel" and David's descendants who ruled Judah were called "kings of Judah." The capitals were Shechem, Tirzah, and Samaria.
